New Sermon Series begins Sunday

For some time I’ve considered preaching a series on the Apostles’ Creed. In this age of post-modern thought, with its attitude of skepticism or rejection of objective reality, morality, truth, human nature and reason, many people don’t know what to believe. It seems now is a good time to look back into our Christian faith heritage to see what kind of framework it provides as we seek to navigate these unique times. The word “Creed” comes from the Latin “Credo” which means “I believe.” Early on in the Christian community there was awareness of the need for teaching and summarizing core truths of the gospel message. As this was done, new believers were encouraged to learn these truths and declare them when they were baptized. Today the words “I believe” seem more radical than ever in these days of skepticism and uncertainty. In the weeks ahead, I look forward to this message series focused on a particular phrase of the Apostles’ Creed each week. This Sunday, we will consider the opening statement: “I believe in God the Father Almighty”. What did it mean to those earliest Christ followers? And what is its significance and importance today? Plan to join us Online or in the Sanctuary at 9:30 or 11am and invite people to join you!
